Hi,
is there any way to use the Intel GPU when I'm on battery or playing old games? I always have my Nvidia graphics card turned on, even if I don't need it. I suppose it reduces battery life, I also play a lot of old games where the Intel gpu is sufficient.

Hi @Arbati,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd like to help!
To use the Intel GPU when you're on battery or playing less demanding games on a laptop with switchable graphics, like the Omen 16, you can follow these general steps:
Check for GPU Switching Options: First, ensure that your laptop supports GPU switching. Most gaming laptops with switchable graphics should have this feature, but it's essential to confirm. Look for an application or setting in your laptop's control panel or system settings that allows you to choose which GPU to use for specific applications.
Access Graphics Settings:
- For Windows: Right-click on the desktop and select "Nvidia Control Panel" or "AMD Radeon Settings." Here, you can manage the GPU settings.
- For Intel GPUs: You can access the Intel Graphics Control Panel by right-clicking on the desktop and selecting "Intel Graphics Settings."
Set GPU Preferences:
- In the graphics control panel, you should find an option to configure graphics preferences. You can specify which GPU you want to use for individual applications. Set less demanding games or applications to use the integrated Intel GPU when you're on battery power.
Adjust Power Plan:
- In Windows, you can optimize power settings by going to "Control Panel" > "Hardware and Sound" > "Power Options." Choose a power plan that emphasizes power savings when on battery.
Update Drivers:
- Ensure that you have the latest graphics drivers installed for both your dedicated GPU (Nvidia or AMD) and your integrated Intel GPU. Sometimes, driver updates can improve performance and compatibility.
Game-Specific Settings:
- Some games allow you to specify which GPU to use within their settings. Check the graphics options within the game itself to see if this is possible.
Please note that the exact steps and options may vary depending on your laptop model, GPU manufacturer, and driver version. Additionally, newer laptops may have more advanced power management and GPU switching features.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
