Hi,
The recommended driver for my laptop is 566.43, so when I use it everything is fine, but the driver is about 3 months old, and when I update to the newest drivers from Nvidia (577.00), the upper quarter of screen flickers on boot.
Should I get worried? Should I stick to old drivers and not update to the newest ones unless HP releases an update?
The screenshot are attached. This happens sometime after boot (about 15 seconds to 3 minutes) and happens in a split second.

@lalalalalala4, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
You're experiencing a brief screen flicker in the upper quarter of the display after booting into Windows 11, specifically when using NVIDIA driver version 577.00 on your Victus by HP 16.1" Gaming Laptop PC 16-s0000 (76T50AV). The issue does not occur with the HP-recommended driver version 566.43.
This is likely due to driver compatibility. HP validates and customizes NVIDIA drivers for your specific laptop model to ensure optimal performance and stability. Newer drivers from NVIDIA (like 577.00) may include changes not yet tested or optimized for your system's firmware, display panel, or BIOS.
Recommendations:
Stick with the HP-recommended driver (566.43) if:
- The flicker is bothersome.
- You don’t need features or fixes introduced in 577.00.
- Stability is your priority.
If you want to use the latest NVIDIA driver (577.00):
- Ensure your BIOS and chipset drivers are up to date from the HP support page.
- Perform a clean installation of the NVIDIA driver using the Custom Install option in the NVIDIA installer.
- Monitor for recurrence. If the flicker is only momentary and doesn’t affect usage, it may be safe to continue using it.
Report the issue to NVIDIA:
- Since this may be a bug in the newer driver, consider reporting it via the NVIDIA Driver Feedback Form
Optional: Disable Fast Startup (sometimes helps with post-boot display glitches):
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do
- Click Change settings that are currently unavailable
- Uncheck Turn on fast startup, then save changes and reboot.
Should You Be Worried?
No, this doesn’t indicate hardware failure. It’s a software-level compatibility issue. As long as the flicker is brief and doesn’t persist during normal use, your hardware is likely fine.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
