HP 17 Laptop PC 17-c2000 IDS Base Model

If this is on the wrong board, I apologize.

I have an HP 17t Laptop, 17.3'' HD+ Touchscreen, Intel Core i7-1165G7 Processor, 64GB DDR4 RAM, and 2TB PCIe SSD.  I've owned it for less than a week.

Within minutes of being turned on, the left side becomes too hot for my lap. I can also feel the heat on the left side of the keyboard. The entire 1/3 of the left side of the keyboard becomes hot. All the thermal tests say everything is normal.

Is it normal for this laptop to be too hot for a user's lap? I can feel the heat while wearing pants as thick as jeans or sweatpants.  I've tried to get help from HP Support. They did all sorts of things that changed nothing. Should I resign myself to this level of discomfort forever, or should I return it before it's too late?

Thank you, in advance, for your help.
