Could someone tell me whether HP 15-dw000 laptop uses PWM to adjust its screen brightness, and if so, at what frequency do the flickerings occur?

@fuyolane Do confirm if this is the product and display you've got: 39.6 cm (15.6") diagonal FHD SVA anti-glare micro-edge WLED-backlit (1920 x 1080)

If yes, the answer to your question is: No, because you have an SVA display, not an IPS, although, here's what you need to know about PWM:

  • An IPS screen has a slight flicker in its backlight brightness controlled via Pulse Width Modulation (PWM).

Some monitors pulse the backlight on and off in order to modulate brightness. At full brightness, the backlight is simply on.

But turn it down a bit and the backlight is pulsed on and off at various rates depending on the desired brightness.

The result, allegedly, is flicker, which is rather invisible to the naked eye.
