Hi @Maria013
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
I understand that the pen supplied with your HP Pavilion has stopped working. Since it was working previously, let’s go through a few focused checks in Windows 11 to restore the pen connection and response.
1. Check the pen power
- If your HP Pen uses a replaceable battery, remove and reinstall the battery, making sure the polarity is correct. If possible, install a fresh battery of the type specified for your pen.
- If it is a rechargeable HP Pen, fully charge it using its supported charging method.
- After restoring power, test both the pen tip and buttons.
2. Reconnect the HP Pen through Bluetooth
If your HP Pen model supports Bluetooth:
- Open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices.
- Make sure Bluetooth is turned on.
- If the HP Pen is already listed, select it and choose Remove device.
- Put the pen into Bluetooth pairing mode. The pairing method varies by HP Pen model, so use the button sequence specified for the pen supplied with your Pavilion.
- Select Add device > Bluetooth and select the HP Pen when it appears.
- Test the pen again.
Keep in mind that some HP pens use Bluetooth only for shortcut/button functions. Writing and touchscreen input may use a separate active-pen technology.
3. Check Windows pen settings
Go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Pen & Windows Ink and review the available pen settings. Then test writing or drawing with the pen.
4. Update the HP Pavilion
Use HP Support Assistant to check for HP-provided updates for the Pavilion, particularly:
- BIOS
- Firmware
- Chipset
- Graphics
- Bluetooth
- Touchscreen or pen-related components when offered for the specific model
Restart the computer after completing the updates.
5. Check the touchscreen
Try operating the Pavilion touchscreen with your finger.
- If touch works normally but the HP Pen does not, focus on the pen, its battery/charging, pairing, and pen compatibility.
- If both touch and pen input have stopped responding, the touchscreen or its associated driver/firmware requires additional attention.
6. Perform an HP hardware diagnostic
- Shut down the HP Pavilion.
- Turn it on and repeatedly press Esc.
- Press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
- If a touchscreen or related component test is available for the Pavilion model, run it and note the result or Failure ID.
Note:
The exact HP Pavilion product number and HP Pen model matter because Pavilion configurations can support different pen technologies. A pen can therefore have power or Bluetooth connectivity while still requiring the correct active-pen compatibility with the display.
If the steps above do not restore pen functionality, share the HP Pavilion product number and the model/part number printed on the HP Pen. This will allow the next troubleshooting steps to be matched precisely to the hardware.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
