HP rechargable Multi Pen

Hello,

I got the pen a week ago and it has worked fine, but I turned it on again today and it doesn't respond (the white light shines for a couple of seconds, but there is no other response). I've charged it every now and then when I'm not using it and the orange light blinks when it charges, but even after 1-2 hours of charging it doesn't work.

I've tried restarting my computer a couple of times, using the pen in various programs, and haven't changed anything in the settings that could've caused this. The pen also doesn't appear under bluetooth devices but it hasn't before either, even when it worked.

The pen is the HP 700/705 rechargable multi pen and I have an HP Envy 360 2-in-1 with Windows 11 that's a few months old.

Thanks in advance

Hi  @presumablyhuman

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thank you for reaching out, and thank you for providing the details. I understand how important it is to have your HP Rechargeable Multi Pen working properly with your HP Envy x360, and I'm glad to assist you.

To better understand the situation, could you kindly confirm the below details ;

  1. When you place the pen on the screen, does the cursor move or respond in any way?
  2. Are the pen buttons functioning, or do they also appear unresponsive?
  3. Have you tested the pen on different areas of the screen?
  4. Does the white LED illuminate every time you press the pen button, or only after charging?

In the meantime, kindly try the below steps and confirm :

1: Perform a Full Pen Charge

  • Connect the pen to a power source using the original charging cable.
  • Allow it to charge uninterrupted for at least 2 hours.
  • Verify that the charging indicator behaves normally during charging.

 2: Restart the Touchscreen Components

  1. Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Human Interface Devices.
  3. Locate HID-compliant touch screen.
  4. Right-click and select Disable device.
  5. Wait a few seconds, then Enable device again.
  6. Restart the computer and test the pen.

3: Check for HP and Windows Updates

  • Run Windows Update and install all available updates.
  • Open the HP Support Assistant and check for BIOS, firmware, and driver updates.

  4: Test the Touchscreen

  • Verify whether touch input from your finger works normally across the entire display.
  • If finger touch works but the pen does not, this can help narrow down the cause.

5: Run the Pen & Touch Troubleshooter

  1. Open Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
  2. Run any available hardware-related troubleshooters.
  3. Restart the device and test again.

I hope this helps.
