OMEN MAX Gaming Laptop 16-ah0931nr (BM5Y8UA)
Microsoft Windows 11

When in the BIOS screens, if the NVIDIA card is selected, the screen drawing, cursor, and mouse use are laggy, making it difficult to select correct choices.  Using Intel or Advanced Optimus (Intel), performance is restored.

@qwidion, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It appears that when using the NVIDIA card in the BIOS screens for your OMEN MAX Gaming Laptop 16-ah0931nr, you may experience lagging issues with screen drawing, cursor, and mouse usage. This lag can make it challenging to navigate the BIOS. However, switching to the Intel graphics or using the Advanced Optimus settings seems to restore performance.

Here are a few steps you might consider to resolve or mitigate this issue:

BIOS Update: Ensure that your BIOS is up to date. HP periodically releases updates that address known issues or improve compatibility.

Graphics Drivers: Verify that both Intel and NVIDIA graphics drivers are up-to-date. Sometimes driver updates can address compatibility and performance issues.

Use Advanced Optimus: If switching to Advanced Optimus helps, it could be a preferred setting until the issue is resolved with future updates. Advanced Optimus dynamically switches between integrated and discrete graphics, balancing performance and efficiency.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for the reply, though some of your suggestions don't really make sense.

The Issue is at the BIOS level, prior to the OS and intel/Nvidia OS drivers are loaded.  This issue is specifically when the Discrete GPU is selected... on purpose.  The HP OMEN BIOS is up to date.  I expect the issue is with the BIOS's misuse or misconfiguration of the Nvidia graphics card resources.    If the BIOS is laggy when using the Nvidia GPU, it doesn't bode well for proper hardware operations higher in the OS stack.  Please pass this issue up to the BIOS engineers for evaluation and resolution.

Thank You,

Hi @qwidion,

I understand your concern regarding the lag in the BIOS interface when the discrete NVIDIA GPU is selected on your OMEN MAX Gaming Laptop 16-ah0931nr.

You are absolutely right — since this occurs within the BIOS environment, it is not influenced by operating system drivers or updates. The behavior you’re describing suggests that the issue could be related to how the BIOS is interacting with the NVIDIA GPU at the hardware level.

I appreciate the detailed feedback you’ve provided. I’ll make sure this information is passed along to the relevant engineering team for further review and evaluation in upcoming BIOS releases.

In the meantime, we recommend keeping the system set to Advanced Optimus or Integrated Graphics mode to maintain responsiveness in the BIOS and ensure stability during operation.
