Hi @Thala1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for sharing this. It’s a great question and one that many users wonder about. When a PowerShell window opens and closes quickly on your HP laptop, especially if it happens once or twice a day, it’s usually not a sign of a problem, but let’s explore it together to be sure.

Here are the most common reasons:

1. Scheduled Background Tasks

  • Windows or HP software may run maintenance scripts or updates using PowerShell.
  • These tasks often launch silently and close once done.

2. HP Software or Drivers

  • HP Support Assistant or HP Update tools sometimes use PowerShell to check for updates or system health.

3. Third-Party Apps

  • Some antivirus or optimization tools (like CCleaner, Malwarebytes, etc.) use PowerShell for cleanup or scanning.

4. Task Scheduler Events

  • You can check if a scheduled task is triggering PowerShell:
    • Press Windows + S, type Task Scheduler, and open it.
    • Look under Task Scheduler Library for any tasks that run PowerShell.exe.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
