HP Envy x360 15.6 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 15-fe0000 (77X86AV)

I finally managed to solve the problem after many days of trying. I did this step again:

Reinstall the Touchscreen Driver

  • Open Device Manager and expand Human Interface Devices.
  • Right-click HID-compliant touch screen and click Uninstall device.
  • Restart your laptop (Windows should reinstall the driver automatically).

But I didi it with the notebook completely charged (it cannot be connected to the charger, as I tried these procedures while it was charging and it didn’t work; it needs to be fully charged). I realized that the issue was occurring at some point when the power-saving mode was being triggered. After that, I went to the Device Manager, expanded Human Interface Devices, and looked for the I2C HID device related to the touchscreen, then checked its properties, power management, and disabled the option "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power." After performing these steps, the touchscreen has never been intermittent again.

So that was my experience and I´m happy that it has been solved!!!!!

I noticed that after a Windows update, the touchscreen mode has alternated between periods where it works and others where it doesn't. Today, for example, I used the touchscreen all day, as well as the pen. I stopped using it for a few hours and when I returned it no longer worked. I have already tried all the suggested attempts by HP's virtual assistant, updated drivers, restarted thousands of times. In the pen and touch information, the message appears: "Pen or touch input is not available for this screen". I use Windows 11 version 23H2.

Hi @ereis0217, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the touchscreen driver is intermittently failing, which could be due to the Windows update affecting power management or driver stability. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and possibly fix the issue:

Check Device Manager

  • Press Win + XDevice Manager.
  • Expand Human Interface Devices.
  • Look for HID-compliant touch screen.
    • If it’s missing, click View > Show hidden devices.
    • If still missing, proceed to step 3.
  • If present:
    • Right-click it > Disable > wait a few seconds > Enable.
    • Right-click again > Update driver > Search automatically.
    • Restart your laptop and check if the touchscreen works.

Check Power Management Settings

  • In Device Manager, right-click HID-compliant touch screen > Properties.
  • Go to the Power Management tab.
  • Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."
  • Click OK and restart your laptop.

Reinstall the Touchscreen Driver

  • Open Device Manager and expand Human Interface Devices.
  • Right-click HID-compliant touch screen and click Uninstall device.
  • Restart your laptop (Windows should reinstall the driver automatically).

Check Windows Updates & Roll Back if Needed

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update > Update history.
  • Look for any updates related to HID, Touchscreen, or Display drivers.
  • If a recent update coincides with the issue:
    • Go to Device Manager, right-click the HID-compliant touch screen, and check if Roll Back Driver is available.
    • If available, roll it back to a previous version.

Run HP UEFI Diagnostics

  • Turn off your laptop.
  • Press Esc repeatedly while turning it on.
  • Select F2 for system diagnostics.
  • Run the Touchscreen test.
  • If it fails, there might be a hardware issue.

Check BIOS & Firmware Updates

  • Go to HP official support page and check for updates related to BIOS, touchscreen firmware, or chipset drivers.
  • If updates are available, install them carefully.

Perform a System Restore

If the touchscreen worked fine before the Windows update, try restoring your system to an earlier point:

  • Press Win + R, type rstrui, and hit Enter.
  • Select a restore point before the issue started and follow the on-screen instructions.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi! I´ve done all of these steps and it doesn´t work. For example, the touchscreen doesn´t work in the safe mode and when I tried the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics , I couldn´t run the Touchscreen Test under Component Tests because this option it doesn´t appear for me in the listed options.

Is there anything else I can do?

@ereis0217, That’s fantastic news! 🎉 It sounds like the power management settings were interfering with the touchscreen's functionality, likely causing it to disconnect or fail intermittently. Your persistence paid off!

Enjoy your fully working touchscreen! 😊👏

Have a nice day!

Warm regards,
