My laptop shows this every time I try to open it

@Lee696, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The screen you’re seeing — "Just a moment..." on a purple background — typically appears during the final stages of Windows setup (usually after a reset, reinstallation, or major update). If it keeps showing every time you turn on the laptop, it’s likely stuck in a setup loop.

Here's what you can do to fix it:

Option 1: Wait (if it's the first time)

  • If this is the very first boot after a reset or reinstallation, leave it for up to 30 minutes (especially on HDD systems). Sometimes Windows is configuring user settings in the background.

Option 2: Force Restart

If it's been stuck for more than 30 minutes (and does this on every startup):

  1. Hold the power button for 10 seconds to force shut down.
  2. Wait 10 seconds.
  3. Power it back on.

If it returns to the same screen repeatedly, proceed with recovery steps below.

Option 3: Boot into Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE)

You may need to perform a repair from recovery:

Steps:

  1. Force shut down the laptop 3 times in a row during startup (as soon as the HP logo or spinning dots appear).
  2. On the third attempt, it should load “Preparing Automatic Repair”, then go to Advanced Options.

Once in Recovery:

Click Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > try:

  • Startup Repair (first choice)
  • If that fails, go back and choose System Restore (if you have a restore point)
  • If nothing else works: Reset this PC (choose Keep my files if possible)

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
