Hi Yall
I have identified a serious issue with the AMD RX Vega 10 driver. If I play MP4's on the laptop it causes it to lockup and freeze. This has required a force restart on the device as it wont even display task manager.
The video Audio plays but not the video. It does seem to play in Windows media player but not always. And it never plays in VLC. This is linked to an update of AMD Software. The Available driver in the August 2018 update only updates this software to 17.7, version 17.9 + fixes the incompatability.
Considering this is a fundemental issue preventing me from playing some of my apple movies on my device. When is it likely that the driver update will be available for the Vega RX 10 that takes the Radeaon software to a version that will play MP4's without issue?
I note that other HP users have expressed the same frustration but for different uses of the GPU

If anyone has a work around please let me know.
Thanks

Thank you for being a part of HP Forums,
It'll be an honor to guide you through the steps needed to identify your concern and/or address your query.
I'd also like to know if your device worked before and it doesn't anymore, since the last update?
If yes, and you are unable to play .mp4 formats could be annoying as that's one of the most basic video formats out there, which is why I recommend you uninstall the graphics card and install a generic driver instead to check if that works, since the recent version has the compatibility issues you are referring to, and there aren't any new versions available for update as of now (there's no information on when a new version would be available either, as that depends on the manufacturer of the video card that being AMD).
Try using the generic video driver that comes with Windows. Here's how:
Open Device Manager, right-click (or press and hold) your video driver > Update driver software... > Browse my computer for driver software > Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer, select the name of your device, select Next, and follow the instructions to install it.
Let me know how that pans out,

Hi Riddle_Decipher
Microsoft's Basic Display Adapter does resolve the issue... Don't think I bought the laptop to sit with it running on a Microsoft’s Basic Display Adapter. Is that going to be effective/efficient for drawing in tablet mode, rendering or encoding videos in Adobe Premiere.?!
It is however a work around and not a permanent solution, AMD also mentioned that HP are responsible for the OEM driver for this laptop. They have written version up to 18.6 yet HP are providing 17.7. Ok I give HP credit as I don’t know the semantics or bureaucratic nature of driver production, but red flag.
When someone can provide a working OEM driver I will mark this as solved. 😉

I am responding on behalf of @Riddle_Decipher as he is out for the day. It is great to have you back and your patience is greatly appreciated.
I recommend you download and install the graphics driver from the below link and check whether the issue is resolved.
