Hello,

I recently purchased an HP Pavilion Plus 14 laptop (less than 1 year). I noticed that the trackpad behaves as follows:

The trackpad does not move or make noise in the upper part.

In the lower part (center, left, and right), when I press or tap, the trackpad moves slightly (1-2 mm) and produces a bad clicking sound.

Pressing lightly in the lower area, the pad sinks slightly making that bad sound but functions normally.

I checked another Pavilion Plus 14 with similar specs, and it behaves the same way. I want to confirm if this is normal for this model or if it could indicate a defect.

Thank you for your help.

Hi @Nico01827278,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • Does the sound occur only when pressing in the lower part of the touchpad, or also during normal tapping/scrolling?
  • Is the touchpad performance otherwise unaffected (cursor movement, gestures, clicks)?
  • Have you noticed if the sound changes when the laptop is placed on a hard surface versus a softer one?

In the meantime, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Check for Driver Updates – Go to Device Manager > Human Interface Devices and update the touchpad driver. You can also run HP Support Assistant to ensure all drivers and firmware are up to date.
  2. Adjust Touchpad Settings – In Windows Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad, try adjusting sensitivity and click settings to see if the sound changes.
  3. Perform a Hard Reset – Shut down the laptop, disconnect the power adapter, and hold the power button for 15 seconds. Then reconnect and restart to refresh hardware connections.
  4. Inspect for Physical Play – Gently press around the edges of the touchpad to check if the rattling is consistent or localized.

I hope this helps.
