Hi Folks,

 

I also have a HP 840 G3 Laptop (L3C64AV) recently purchased online. I was EXTREMELY disappointed to find that it did not have a backlit keyboard as standard having recently had one for work for many years. I couldn't find where this was a optional item for the device either. Can you tell me if a backlit keyboard version (bought as a spare part) would work with this model (L3C64AV) i.e. is the motherboard compatible for it?

According to the HP Parts Catalog, the backlit keyboard comes in two versions.

836308-001 - Backlit keyboard assembly - Spill-resistant design with drain and DuraKey coating (United States) 903008-001 - Backlit privacy keyboard with Point Stick (United States)

But you can also find one from a third party seller online that will be much less expensive.
