All the videos have vro format. The software will play some but not others. When I try to copy or convert the format to my computer the software either doesn't complete the task or gets hung up. The files are about 4.5 gb.

Nearly all DVD movies use same format as mentioned on the following link
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD-Video
I know one FREE video player software which supports nearly ALL video/audio formats (including BluRay) . You can download from
https://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-winrt.html
and install to your machine.
Since resolution of DVD movies (zone protected) is too low, we have to use new format for optical discs (BluRay) but very expensive and ZONE protected .
But BD's are still no good, I think Red Ray now is much better but still no good because people now talking 4K, 8K and 12K using few different containers.
Anyway, if you wish to convert from DVD to MP4 format you have to use RIP software, not all RIP software allow you to RIP zone protected DVD's Please try the following list.
By the way which software do you use ?
Regards.
