I occasionally have display issues like the picture attached. I do not know what's causing it or how it happens. Sometimes it comes on a few minutes after powering up, sometimes a few hours after, and sometimes not at all.

@ABDG

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • When was the last time it worked without these issues?
  • Have you updated the Graphics and Chipset drivers?
  • Have you checked the display on an external monitor?

Let’s try these steps to resolve the problem:

I recommend you attempt to access the BIOS screen by tapping on F10 while the computer is restarting,

If the issue persists in the BIOS screen which is outside windows, it would confirm a hardware failure.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

I didn’t have issues at all until last month (5-6 weeks ago). I then updated my graphics drivers and they stopped until they came back intermittently while having the latest drivers. Now they’re out of date again.  It’s not always the same pattern too. The red background with white vertical lines showed up twice now but other patterns appeared like a black back ground with vertical lines on the left side of the screen. These have left what I call “water marks”, even after they’re gone. I think they’ve burned through my screen.

No display issues when the Bios is up but I can still see the “water marks.” The system log shows no data.

@ABDG

Thank you for posting back.

I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue.
The last thing I can suggest try and restore the OS back to the factory default, which will isolate whether it’s a software or hardware issue.  The HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file in order to install the Windows operating system.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
