Dear Sir,
As mentioned in the subject, my computer is outdated and is not compatible with the official HP drivers. Therefore, we need to find alternative software to support our work: fingerprint, touchpad,... Could you please assist us by checking and advising on a suitable solution?
Best regards,
Francis

Hi @E6N49AV,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP ENVY 17 is outdated and the official HP drivers are not compatible, there are still some alternative approaches you can consider to get the necessary software and functionality, especially for the fingerprint reader and touchpad. Here's how you can address the issues.
Fingerprint Scanner:
- Windows Hello (Built-in): If your laptop's fingerprint sensor is supported by Windows Hello, you can use the built-in Windows biometric system for login. This should not require specific drivers, as Windows will try to auto-detect compatible hardware.
- To set it up:
- Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
- Under Windows Hello Fingerprint, click Set up and follow the on-screen instructions.
- To set it up:
- Third-Party Software:
- If Windows doesn't automatically recognize the fingerprint scanner or if you prefer an alternative, software like Biometrics Fingerprint Scanner (often available from third-party developers) may help. Ensure the software specifically supports your model or a compatible scanner.
Touchpad:
- Windows Precision Drivers (Built-in): Many modern touchpads are supported by Windows' native Precision Touchpad drivers, which should work well for basic functionality like multi-touch gestures, scrolling, and clicking.
- To enable/ensure the Precision Touchpad driver is active:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
- If the Precision Touchpad option is listed, make sure it is enabled.
- To enable/ensure the Precision Touchpad driver is active:
- Generic Touchpad Drivers: If the Precision drivers are not available, you can check for generic drivers through Device Manager by expanding the "Mice and other pointing devices" section. Right-click your touchpad device and select Update driver to search for compatible drivers from Windows Update.
Device Manager Workaround:
- Manual Driver Installation:
- Open Device Manager (search for it in the Start menu).
- Right-click on any device that is missing a driver (e.g., fingerprint sensor or touchpad).
- Choose Update driver, then select Search automatically for updated driver software or Browse my computer for driver software if you have a driver file.
Compatibility Mode (For HP Drivers):
- If the official HP drivers are available but incompatible, you can attempt to install them in compatibility mode for an older version of Windows (e.g., Windows 10 or 7).
- Right-click the driver file.
- Select Properties > Compatibility tab.
- Check Run this program in compatibility mode for and select an earlier version of Windows.
- Apply the changes and try installing again.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
