Product: HP Pavilion - 15
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Changed display settings with HDMI plugged in to display visual on external device only but external device is now found to not work and I am left without access to this setting without the HDMI plugged in, which in turn prevents me seeing the screen. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try holding the Windows Key + P and you should see the options to switch screens or duplicate etc
