Scratch where? Did it arrive like that or the scratch happened later?

The scratch happened later.

It is very hard to repair plastic. I have seen people use colored markers, or even something like body filler you would use on a Corvette and paint but that is not a great result. Other than that all the can be done is to replace the affected panel; is why I asked where the scratch is. If it is on the top of the screen you have to replace the screen housing. The big plastic parts are not cheap and in some cases very hard to replace, requiring extensive disassembly of the laptop.

I only had the laptop a couple of months and it really bothers me that I have a scratch this soon.  I am willing to pay to get it repaired at this point.

Wow I would call that a wound not a scratch. Anyway if we can have the full model or product number and where you live (country) we can track down the screen housing back cover and walk you through installation or help you find a local place to swap in the good part.

If you are in some places in the world like India there are HP Service Centers you can take it to and they will do the work, but that does not apply much in the US.
