HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-d5000 (4V9X9AV)

Hello. I have only just set up my new laptop but the screen is super faded and desaturated. Seems to be a common issue - how do I fix it? I've read other threads but I can't seem to fix it. And slightly annoyed I'm having to 😕
Thank you

Hi @sg2206,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Screen desaturation on laptops can be frustrating, but it’s usually related to display settings, drivers, or hardware calibration. Here’s how to address the issue for your HP 15.6-inch Laptop PC.

Adjust Display Settings

Color Calibration (Windows Settings):

  1. Open Settings > System > Display.
  2. Scroll down and click Advanced display settings.
  3. Look for Display adapter properties for Display 1, and under the Color Management tab, click Color Management....
  4. Go to the Advanced tab and click Calibrate Display to adjust gamma, brightness, contrast, and color balance.

Night Light and HDR Settings:

  1. Ensure Night Light is off (Settings > System > Display > Night Light).
  2. Disable HDR if it’s unnecessarily enabled (Settings > System > Display > HDR).

Update or Rollback Graphics Drivers

Update Drivers:

  1. Right-click Start > Device Manager.
  2. Expand Display adapters and right-click your graphics card (e.g., Intel UHD or AMD Radeon).
  3. Select Update driver > Search automatically for drivers.
  4. Restart your laptop after the update.

Rollback Drivers:

  • If the issue appeared after a driver update, in Device Manager, right-click your display adapter, choose Properties, go to the Driver tab, and click Roll Back Driver.

Use Manufacturer Display Tools

  • Some HP laptops come with pre-installed tools like HP Display Control or HP Support Assistant. Use these to adjust the screen calibration.

Check BIOS/UEFI

  • Restart your laptop and enter BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing F2, F10, or Esc during boot).
  • Check if the display looks normal in BIOS. If it’s also faded, it might be a hardware issue.

External Display Test

  • Connect your laptop to an external monitor or TV to see if the desaturation issue persists.
    • If the external display looks normal, the laptop’s screen might have a hardware defect.
    • If the issue exists on both, it’s likely a software/driver problem.

Factory Reset or Repair

  • If the problem persists after trying the above steps, consider a factory reset. Go to Settings > System > Recovery > Reset this PC.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
