Hi @HizR,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Screen flickering and black gradient issues can be quite frustrating. Here are some potential solutions you can try to diagnose and fix the problem.
Check for Display Driver Issues
- Update Drivers: Go to Device Manager > Display adapters. Right-click your graphics card and select “Update driver.” Follow the prompts to search for updated drivers.
- Rollback Driver: If the issue started after a recent driver update, you might want to roll back to the previous version. In Device Manager, right-click your graphics card, select “Properties,” then go to the “Driver” tab and choose “Roll Back Driver” if available.
Adjust Refresh Rate
- Right-click on the desktop and select “Display settings.”
- Scroll down and click on “Advanced display settings.”
- Under “Refresh rate,” select a different rate and see if it resolves the flickering issue.
Check for Windows Updates
- Ensure your operating system is up to date. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.
Run Hardware Diagnostics
- HP laptops often come with built-in diagnostics. Restart your laptop and repeatedly press the “Esc” key, then press “F2” to open HP Support Assistant and run the hardware diagnostics.
Adjust Power Settings
- Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options. Choose “High performance” or adjust your current plan settings to see if it helps.
Disable Hardware Acceleration
- In applications that use hardware acceleration (like browsers), try disabling this feature. In Chrome, for example, go to Settings > Advanced > System and toggle off “Use hardware acceleration when available.”
Check for External Interference
- Ensure that there are no external devices or electromagnetic interference sources near the laptop that could be causing display issues.
Perform a System Restore
- If the problem started recently, you might consider performing a system restore to a point before the issue began. Go to Control Panel > System and Security > System > System Protection and select “System Restore.”
Test with an External Monitor
- Connect your laptop to an external monitor to determine if the issue is with the laptop’s display or the internal graphics. If the external monitor displays correctly, the issue might be with the laptop’s screen or connection.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
