Hi @e058883,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing a screen flickering issue on your HP Pavilion 15-eh0097nr can be caused by various factors, including software or hardware issues.

Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:

1. Update Display Drivers:

Check for Updates via Device Manager:

  1. Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand the Display adapters section.
  3. Right-click on your display driver (e.g., AMD Radeon, Intel UHD Graphics) and select Update driver.
  4. Choose Search automatically for drivers.

Download the Latest Drivers from the HP:

  • Visit the HP Support website or the graphics card manufacturer's website (e.g., AMD, Intel) to download and install the latest drivers manually.

2. Check for Windows Updates:

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update and check for any pending updates. Install all available updates and restart your computer.

3. Adjust Refresh Rate:

  • Steps:
    1. Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings.
    2. Scroll down and click on Advanced display settings.
    3. Under Refresh rate, try selecting a different refresh rate (e.g., 60Hz).

4. Check for Software Conflicts:

  • Task Manager Test:
    1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
    2. If Task Manager doesn't flicker but the screen behind it does, it could be a software issue.
    3. Uninstall recent apps or programs that may be causing the conflict.

5. Disable Hardware Acceleration:

  • In apps like browsers (e.g., Chrome, Edge), try disabling hardware acceleration.
  • Example in Chrome:
    1. Open Chrome and go to Settings > Advanced > System.
    2. Turn off Use hardware acceleration when available.

6. Perform a Clean Boot:

  • Steps:
    1. Press Win + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
    2. Go to the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, and then click Disable all.
    3. Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager.
    4. Disable all startup items.
    5. Restart your PC and see if the issue persists.

7. Check Hardware Issues:

Test with an External Monitor:

  • Connect your laptop to an external monitor. If the flickering is only on the laptop screen and not the external monitor, it might indicate an issue with the laptop screen or its connection.

Check the Screen Connection:

  • If you're comfortable opening your laptop, you can check the connection of the screen to the motherboard. A loose or damaged connection could cause flickering.

8. Run HP Diagnostic Tools:

  • Use the HP Hardware Diagnostics UEFI tool to check for hardware issues:
    1. Turn off your laptop.
    2. Turn it on and repeatedly press the Esc key until the Startup Menu appears.
    3. Press F2 to enter the Diagnostics screen and run the relevant tests (e.g., Video/Display).

9. Consider a System Restore:

  • If the flickering started after a recent update or installation, performing a system restore to a previous point might resolve the issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
