Hi, I have a problem with my screen flickering and jumping up a bit anytime I watch videos in full screen. I've tried to run diagnostics tests, updated my computer and restarting it. I've tried to change multiple display settings from some of the community answers but the problem remains.

I don't know what else to do and it bothers me very much. It's a fairly new laptop as well so it's very disappointing to have this problem. I saw another person had posted about exactly this problem, but they didn't find a solution either.

Hi @Shaxz,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your fairly new HP laptop is flickering and “jumping” when you watch videos in full screen, and the usual fixes (updates, diagnostics, display settings) haven’t helped. Let’s go through a structured set of checks to narrow this down.

Update Graphics Drivers Directly

Even if Windows Update says drivers are current, download the latest Intel/AMD/NVIDIA graphics driver from HP’s support site for your exact model.

Outdated or generic drivers are the most common cause of flickering during video playback.

Disable Hardware Acceleration in Apps

In browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox), go to Settings > System and turn off “Use hardware acceleration when available.”

In video players (like VLC), disable hardware acceleration in preferences.

This prevents conflicts between the GPU and video rendering.

Check Refresh Rate Settings

Right‑click the desktop, choose Display Settings > Advanced Display Settings.

Make sure the refresh rate matches the panel’s native spec (usually 60Hz or 120Hz).

Incorrect refresh rates can cause flicker when switching to full screen.

Test with External Monitor

Connect your laptop to an external display.

If the flicker disappears, the issue is with the laptop’s internal panel or cable.

If it persists, the problem is GPU/driver related.

Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers

Use HP Support Assistant or HP’s driver page to install the latest BIOS and chipset updates.

These updates often fix display stability issues on newer laptops.

Check Power Settings

Go to Control Panel > Power Options and set to “High Performance.”

Flickering can occur if the GPU is throttled under “Balanced” mode during video playback.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics (F2 at startup)

Run the display test to confirm if the panel itself has a fault.

If the test shows errors, the issue is hardware and may require service.

I hope this helps.
