Troubleshooting black screen issues on HP Notebooks: Click here to view the instructions!
HP Recommended
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello everyone, I have a late 2020 model specter 15". The top edge of the screen mainly to the left and right of where the mousepad lays has odd, whitish looking spots or scuff marks when the screen is black, and when it has a colored background it looks kind of oily, as if someone rubbed their greasy finger along the edge.

I'm wondering if this is something that other people have noticed as well, or if this is an isolated incident?

It's not terrible right now, and is mostly unnoticeable except to me since the rest of the screen is in absolutely perfect condition.  I have owned this for over a year now so I am out of the manufacturer's warranty. I am disappointed if this is the coating already showing signs of wear. If this is an isolated problem with my screen I would hope HP support would still do something to have it fixed. The beautiful screen was the main selling point of this laptop for me.

I will try to post pictures if anybody would like to see, as I said though it is only light damage right now and in the top 1" of the screen only so very hard to make out in a picture.

Thank you,

-Andrew
