Hello,
for a couple of months now I keep getting a strange problem with my laptop screen. Whenever it boots up, the same piture is shown twice on the screen (I have appended a picture of it).
Sometimes itgoes back to normal after a few restarts, but today it does not.
It looks like that.
I am looking forward to some suggestions on how to maybe solve this.
Since it is kind of strange, I have yet to find a similar problem anywhere else online 😉

I understand that you are facing a screen issue.
If you haven't, Please try an alternate monitor to understand if this is either a hardware or a software failure,
if the issue does not appear on the alternate monitor, you may need to replace the display assembly on your computer,
if the issue appears on the alternate monitor/TV as well, re-install the graphics card drivers & update it from the official HP Website: Click here
If you don’t have an alternate monitor, I recommend checking if the issue appears on the BIOS screen (restart the computer and tap on F10 to access BIOS)
If the issue does not appear in BIOS, reinstall the graphics card drivers & update BIOS using the above link,
If it does, you may need to replace the LCD/Repair the computer:
If the issue occurred after an accident (such as dropping it on the floor, liquid spilled on it, etc.) there could be a hardware failure and in such cases, you may need to get the computer repaired via HP (there could be a charge involved if the PC isn't covered by the accidental damage protection plan)
Reply with the result of the above-mentioned steps, for further assistance.

thank you very much for your reply.
I have indeed checked both approaches already. What I noticed was that the error almost always appeares when booting into BIOS, but never occurs on a second screen. However, sometimes there is no picture at all on said second screen.
Reinstalling my graphics-driver solved the problem one time in the past, but did not solve it recently. Tilting the screen back and forth (of the laptop) during startup actually does the trick at the moment.
Concerning accidents, I dropped the device 5years ago, quite soon after I had bought it, while it was in a bag. The issue started long after that, so it is unlikely related. What could have caused it however, is the (rather unfavorable) method of connecting the display with the base, by just glueing the backpanel onto the hinge. Because about 3 years after purchase, the mentioned glue disassociated.
Together with a Professor of mine (from the department of Computer Engineering, I was in college back then), we fixed the problem by drilling three small holes in the backpanel and applying screws from the back of the panel (it turned out there were actually 3 screws with matching threads on the hinge, but they were originaly not applied to fasten the backpanel onto the hinge).
Still, this should not be related, because again the error started to appear long after that.
I understand if my issue is of no or little concern, by fixing the mentioned problem on my own I voided the warranty and if I had not, it would not apply now anyway. I just thought it might be of interest to someone else, if just for entertainment 😉
If you have the time, I would love to hear back nonetheless, maybe something can be done about it.
