I just got the laptop and the screen saver refuses to start up. I change the time frame...nothing. It doesn't even turn the screen off after the set length of time. For a laptop that's not even a month old, this strikes me as unacceptable.
I'm beginning to wonder if the Inter Graphics Driver or Notebook System BIOS update had something to do with it, particularly as each update indicated that NEWER drivers were already on the system (which also makes the need for an update kind of pointless)
So how do I get the screensaver to actually work???

Hi @mattschec,
Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums! Good Day.:) Hope you are doing well. 🙂 I understand that you have issues with the screensaver not working correctly. I’ll be glad to assist you with this.
You’ve done an excellent job on diagnosing the issue from your end. Kudos to you on that score. It is always a privilege to work with tech-savvy and technically competent customers like you. We greatly value your relationship with HP. You are a valued HP customer and we appreciate you greatly for doing business with HP. I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you.
For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this.
- I would require the complete model# of the unit.
- Is it a Windows built-in screen saver or is it a downloaded one?
- Have you checked the power options and customized it?
Please perform these steps.
First, update the bios. Chipset and video drivers from this link: http://hp.com/drivers and follow the on-screen instructions.
Then check again by starting up the screen saver?
Try with a different screensaver because it could be an issue with that specific screensaver.
Please visit these links for more information one at a time to try and fix the issue. If the issue gets fixed with the steps from one of these links ignore the rest.
