Pavilion Gaming Laptop
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HI,

From time to time my screen starts flickering very fast. What ever I do does not work.

I trink it is a problem with the refresh rate since I can see the screen refreshing fast and it's eye tireing. It stops by itself and works perfectly. At first I thought I have a problem but asked a colegue and he seen the flickering too.

Since I thought it is a refresh rate issue, I tried to readjust the refresh rate in the intel display panel. Did not change. I cannot do the same in the nvidia since the card is not active in windows by default, only in games.

To make thinks weird it;s not only a HP problem, I have a Microsoft Surface Pro 6 and it did the exact thing a few months before but was fixed apparently by a firmware update by Microsoft. Cand it be the same microsoft windows update that required an adjustment for the surface that is causing my problem now with the Pavilion Gaming Laptop?

I still have warranty, and if it is someting hardware I can request it to be repaired.

Thanks,

Razvan

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • What is the product number of your device? Use this link to find it: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824  (Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).
  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
  • Have you tried updating the windows?

While you respond to that, let's try these steps:
Perform Windows Update and HP Support Assistant:

To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.

Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. To open HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon https://support.hp.com/doc-images/932/c05040382.jpg.
  2. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  3. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  4. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  5. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  6. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

And, also run BIOS Update: Follow steps from the link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00042629

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
