My screen suddenly started to flicker randomly today. It seems to me like a hardware problem. It only happens when the laptop is plugged for charging. But I observed no such thing in BIOS. What could be the possible reason for this?

Hi @h8pathak,
Welcome to HP Forums,
This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂
As I understand, screen flickers while notebook is plugged in.
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
When was the last time it was working fine?
Are you using the original charger which came along with your HP Notebook?
What is the product number?
Were there any recent hardware/software changes made?
Let's try these steps mentioned below:
Step 1: Update the graphics driver using Windows Update:
a. In Windows, search for and open Windows Update.
b. Click one of the following options, if presented, on the Windows Update window:
- Windows Update displays a list of available updates, including graphics driver updates. If updates are available to download, select any updates you want to download, and click Install now. The installation process could take several minutes, depending on the size and number of updates being downloaded.
- If no updates are currently listed, click Check for updates. If updates are available to download, select any updates you want to download including graphics driver updates. Then click Install now.
Step 2:
- Open HP Support Assistant.
- Select the My devices tab, then select your PC from the device list. Click Check for updates and messages.
- If a graphics driver update is available, the update displays in HP Support Assistant, along with any other available updates for your computer. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the updates.
Step 3: Updating the BIOS
Follow steps mentioned in the link to update BIOS.
Step 4: Uninstall and reinstall Battery drivers:
1) In the search box, type and open “Device Manager”.
2) Expand “Batteries”.
3) Right click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there.
4) Click on “Uninstall”.
5) At the prompt put a check in the box to remove the current driver
6) Shutdown the computer.
7) Remove the battery for minute and then put it back in.
😎 When the computer comes back up it should automatically find the driver.
9) Go to Device Manager.
10) Expand Batteries.
11) Right click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there.
12) Click "Search automatically for updated driver software"
Do the same thing with Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller.
Let me know how that pans out
I hope you have a good day ahead,
And feel free to ask any other queries as well,
Considering, this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.

Hi..Thanks for replying back.
I'll answer your questions.
1) The laptop was working fine hours before I reported this issue. The problem was sudden.
2) Yes, I'm using the original charger. (Can it be the problem of the charger? as I've observed that a little displacement of the charger sometimes solves the problem. Though it can just be a coincidence.)
3) Product no: M2W75PA#ACJ
4) No, there were no recent hardware or software changes made. The windows was updated about a month ago.
I'll add one more thing to the question that I observed the problem in my Ubuntu operating system too (I've a dual boot laptop). So it can't be a problem of the drivers or even the windows OS.
And I haven't yet observed the problem in the BIOS. So it shouldn't be a hardware problem too.
I've tried running the laptop without the battery. ie. directly plugged through the charger. The problem persisted. So it can't be the problem of the battery. (although my battery is weak)
Please help. Thanks.
