I am using an HP Laptop model 15-dy1771ms. A few days ago when I started the laptop in the morning, the screen started flickering and going blank when I used the touch pad or the mouse. The Touch screen and keyboard are working fine.
How do I resolve this problem.
I did not upload or install anything on my own.

Hi @Shail50,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Screen flickering on an HP Laptop model 15 when using the mouse can be caused by various factors, ranging from software issues to hardware problems. Here are some steps you can take to diagnose and potentially resolve the issue.
Update Graphics Drivers: Outdated or corrupted graphics drivers can lead to display issues. Visit the HP support website or the official website of the graphics card manufacturer to download and install the latest drivers for your laptop's graphics card.
Adjust Display Settings:
- Right-click on the desktop and select "Display Settings" (or "Screen Resolution").
- Try changing the screen refresh rate to a different value and see if the flickering stops. Usually, values like 60Hz are standard.
Disable Hardware Acceleration:
- Some applications use hardware acceleration which can sometimes conflict with certain graphics setups. Try disabling hardware acceleration in applications like web browsers (e.g., Chrome, Firefox).
- In Chrome, go to Settings > Advanced > System and disable "Use hardware acceleration when available."
Boot in Safe Mode:
- Restart your laptop and boot into Safe Mode. If the flickering stops in Safe Mode, it's likely a third-party software causing the issue. Try uninstalling recently installed programs or drivers.
Malware and Virus Scan:
- Perform a full scan of your laptop using a reputable antivirus or antimalware program to rule out any malicious software causing the issue.
Check Mouse Drivers:
- Make sure your mouse drivers are up to date. Outdated or incompatible mouse drivers can sometimes cause strange behavior.
External Devices and Cables:
- If you're using an external monitor or other peripherals, disconnect them and see if the flickering persists.
- Check the mouse and its cable for any damage. Sometimes a faulty cable or connector can cause interference.
Windows Updates:
- Make sure Windows is up to date with the latest updates. Sometimes bugs or compatibility issues are addressed in updates.
Power Management Settings:
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options and ensure your laptop is using a balanced or high-performance power plan. Sometimes power-saving settings can affect performance.
Hardware Issues:
- If none of the software-related steps solve the issue, there could be a hardware problem. It might be related to the display cable, the graphics card, or other internal components.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
