Hi @adamx3,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I’m sorry you’re going through this; I understand the concern and don’t worry I’ll help you with this.

To help me understand the situation better, could you please share a bit more information?

 Please let me know:

  1. Laptop Model
    • What is the exact HP notebook model?
    • This helps check the correct troubleshooting steps for your hardware.
  2. Symptoms
    • When you try to power it on, do you see:
      • Any lights (power, charging, keyboard backlight)
      • Any sounds (fans spinning, hard drive activity)
    • Does the screen show the green and black spots immediately, or after a few seconds?
  3. Power Status
    • Is the notebook plugged into the original HP charger?
    • Have you tried disconnecting and reconnecting the charger or using a different outlet?
  4. Recent Changes
    • Did this happen after a drop, impact, or liquid spill?
    • Any recent driver, BIOS, or Windows updates?
  5. External Display
    • If you connect the laptop to an external monitor or TV via HDMI/DisplayPort, does anything appear on that display?

 Initial Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Power Reset
    • Disconnect the charger and any external devices
    • Hold the power button for 30–40 seconds
    • Reconnect the charger and try to power on
  2. Check External Display
    • Connect an external monitor to see if the green/black issue appears on it
    • This can help identify if it’s the internal screen vs. GPU issue
  3. Battery Check
    • If removable, disconnect the battery, hold the power button for 30 seconds, then reconnect and try again
  4. HP Hardware Diagnostics
    • If the laptop shows any signs of life, restart and press F2
    • Run the display and system tests

To help you further, please provide:

  1. Exact HP notebook model
  2. Whether any lights, fans, or sounds come on when pressing power
  3. If an external monitor show anything
  4. When the green/black screen first appeared  suddenly or after updates/impact

Once I have these details, I can guide you step-by-step to determine whether this is a screen, graphics, or motherboard issue and advise on the next steps.

I hope this helps.
