In the beginning, when my laptop was overheated then only this problem occurred, but now, even though its cool and I just switched it on, when I take my HP pen closer to the screen it starts marking and produces a lot of stray marks while writing, It has become really frustrating, I tried calibrating, using the diagnostic tools of HP everything is ok, just that issue of marking without touching. Please suggest what shall I do. I have no other pc to test my pen to.

Hi @Arhemis,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
The issue you're experiencing with your HP Pavilion x360 14-inch 2-in-1 Laptop (14-ek0000), where the screen is marking without the pen touching it, could be due to a few reasons, including touchscreen calibration issues, hardware malfunction, or driver problems. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the problem:
1. Check for Software Issues
- Update Drivers:
- Go to the HP Support website.
- Download and install the latest touchscreen and graphics drivers for your laptop model.
- Windows Updates:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Check for any available updates and install them.
2. Calibrate the Touchscreen
Even if you’ve tried calibrating, doing it again after updating drivers may help:
Open Control Panel:
- Type Control Panel in the search bar and open it.
Tablet PC Settings:
- Click on Tablet PC Settings.
- In the Display tab, click on Calibrate.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to recalibrate the touchscreen.
3. Check for Hardware Issues
- Inspect the Screen:
- Check for any physical damage, moisture, or debris on the screen that could affect touch sensitivity.
- Test with Another Pen:
- If possible, try using a different HP pen or stylus to see if the issue persists.
4. Disable Touchscreen Temporarily
If the problem continues, you can temporarily disable the touchscreen to see if it helps:
Open Device Manager:
- Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
Find Human Interface Devices:
- Expand the Human Interface Devices section.
- Right-click on the HID-compliant touch screen and select Disable device.
Test the Laptop:
- Restart your laptop and test it without the touchscreen to see if the stray marks still occur.
Kindly find the remaining steps in the next post
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Please find the next steps below.
5. Perform a Hard Reset
A hard reset can help clear any temporary software issues:
- Shut down the laptop completely.
- Disconnect the power adapter and remove any external devices.
- Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the power adapter and turn on the laptop.
6. Use HP Hardware Diagnostics
Run HP Hardware Diagnostics to check for hardware issues:
- Turn off the laptop.
- Turn it on and immediately press the Esc key repeatedly until the Startup Menu opens.
- Select F2 for System Diagnostics.
- Run the touchscreen diagnostics test.
7. Restore to a Previous State
If the problem started after a specific change, consider restoring your system to a previous state:
- Open Control Panel:
- Go to Control Panel > System and Security > System.
- System Restore:
- Click on System Protection on the left.
- Click on System Restore and follow the prompts to restore to a point before the issue began.
If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it may indicate a deeper hardware problem with the touchscreen or the digitizer. In this case, contacting HP Phone Support for further diagnosis and repair would be the best course of action.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
