Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you are having issues with the notebook screen goes black when unplugged. Don't worry we'll work together to help you find a solution.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Have you recently made any changes on the PC before the issue started?
Did it happen after a recent software update or Windows update?
Have you checked if the issue persists in the Bios screen? or Does it happen when connected to alternate monitor?
In the meantime, let's try these steps here:
Perform a Hard reset on the notebook:
Many startup errors and other problems can be resolved by decreasing the amount of power stored in hardware components. Decreasing stored power is sometimes referred to as a "Hard Reset". Use the following steps to perform a hard reset on a computer:
-
If Windows is open, click Start and then Shutdown.
If Windows is not open and the computer has power, press and hold the power button on the computer until the computer shuts off.
-
With the power off, disconnect the power cord from the back of the computer.
-
With the power off and the power cord disconnected, press the power button on the computer for 5 seconds. The power light indicator on or near the power button might turn on briefly but then go out.
-
Reconnect the power cord and turn on the power.
Try checking for "Sleep Mode" issues... Sometimes they are set to turn off the display when running only on battery, or when plugged in to charge, etc.
1. Go into "Control Panel" and click the "Power Options".
2. Next to the plan that is currently selected click "Change Plan Settings".
3. Now click "Change Advanced Power Settings".
4. Locate the option for running on battery and make sure it is set to never sleep.
5. Change/set it to allow.
6. Click "OK".
7. Finally shut down and power up the computer.
Next thing, I would suggest here is to toot the computer into the Bios screen and check.
1. Turn off your computer
2. Make sure you have connected the power cable
3. Turn on your notebook, as it is starting press the F10 button repeatedly
On the Bios screen, go ahead and unplug the power adapter and check if the screen goes blank/black.
If the screen goes black then this could be a possible hardware failure.
Alternatively, you can try to connect an alternate monitor and check if the issue persists.
if the issue does not appear on the alternate monitor, you may need to replace the display assembly on your computer,
if the issue appears on the alternate monitor/TV as well, re-install the graphics card drivers & update it from the official HP Website: Click here
Alternatively, I would suggest you could try to update the Bios on your PC from our HP support website, using this link (Please select the Operating system and version of Windows before downloading and installing the software). Once done restart the PC and check.
Could you please respond to this post with the details of the product and with the results as this will help me in further assisting you.
Eagerly waiting for your response!
I hope you have a good day ahead,
