Hi @Vedica1011,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you

If your HP laptop screen is stuck during a BIOS update, it can be a serious issue, but there are steps you can take to try to resolve it. BIOS updates are critical for system functionality, so it’s important to proceed carefully. Here's how to handle a situation where the BIOS update seems to be stuck:

1. Wait for a While:

  • BIOS updates can sometimes take several minutes. If you’ve only just started the update, it may still be in progress. Wait for at least 30 minutes to an hour before taking further action.

2. Check for Power:

  • Ensure that your laptop is plugged into a power source and that the battery is charged. BIOS updates are sensitive to power interruptions, so a stable power supply is crucial.

3. Force a Shutdown:

  • If the screen remains stuck and you’ve waited long enough, you may need to force a shutdown:
    • Press and hold the power button for about 10-15 seconds until the laptop powers off.
    • Wait a few seconds, then turn the laptop back on.

4. Perform a Hard Reset:

  • If a normal shutdown doesn’t work, try performing a hard reset:
    • Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, printers, etc.).
    • Remove the power cord and the battery (if removable).
    • Hold the power button for 15-30 seconds to discharge any residual power.
    • Reconnect the battery and power cord, then try turning the laptop on again.

5. Enter BIOS Recovery Mode:

  • Some HP laptops have a BIOS recovery mode that can help recover from a failed BIOS update:
    • Turn off the laptop.
    • Press and hold the Windows key and the B key together.
    • While holding these keys, press and hold the power button for about 10-15 seconds, then release all keys.
    • The laptop should attempt to enter BIOS recovery mode. Follow any on-screen instructions if it appears.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hi @Vedica1011,

Please find the remaining steps below.

6. Reset BIOS to Default:

  • If you can get into BIOS after a restart, look for an option to reset BIOS settings to their default configuration. This option is often found in the "Exit" or "Save & Exit" menu.

7. Check HP Support Website:

  • Visit the HP Support website and search for your laptop model. Look for specific instructions on BIOS recovery or reset for your model.

8. Use a BIOS Recovery USB Drive:

  • If available, you can use a BIOS recovery USB drive to update or recover the BIOS manually:
    • Download the latest BIOS update for your laptop model from the HP Support website.
    • Follow the instructions provided by HP to create a BIOS recovery USB drive.
    • Insert the USB drive into the laptop and follow the recovery instructions.

In cases where the BIOS update has rendered the system inoperable and recovery attempts fail, this could lead to hardware issues.

However,

  • Do Not Interrupt: Avoid interrupting the BIOS update process unless absolutely necessary, as this can potentially damage the motherboard.

You may also refer to this document for more information.

By following these steps, you should be able to handle a situation where the BIOS update is stuck, If none of the above steps work, Contact HP Support for further assistance.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
