I replaced the laptop with genuine hp battery. First boot up had a cmos checksum error and then counted down, powered off. I tried turning it on and everything is running, I can hear it but the lcd is off. I tried:
Using the old battery
Reseating the ram
Trying 1 ram at a time
Using only the power cord, no battery
Taking out the battery and unplugging, holding in the power button to drain power then letting sit overnight
Hooking up to external monitor (no luck)
Holding down windows key and B key at boot to try to get to bios
No matter what I try, the screen won't turn on. It worked after I changed the battery but after the cmos checksum error and the shutdown after it counted down, no screen. But I hear the other stuff running.
CAPS lock blink code: 3 short, 5 long blinks.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks! I've been working on this for days!!

Have you reset the computer to release excessive static? If not, use the below steps:
- Ensure your device is OFF.
- Unplug all the external devices (If any).
- Disconnect the power cord from the PSU,
- Press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds.
- Connect the power supply (power cord).
- Press the power button to turn on your desktop.
