Hi, I just booted up my laptop to this screen (pic attached). It was working fine a few days ago when I last used it. Would appreciate any advice!

Hi @rrredwine,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Here are some general troubleshooting steps you can try.

  • Restart Your Laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve minor software glitches.
  • Check for External Devices: If you have any external devices (USB drives, external hard drives, etc.) connected to your laptop, try disconnecting them and then restart your laptop to see if the issue persists. Sometimes, an incompatible or malfunctioning external device can cause boot-up problems.
  • Enter Safe Mode: Try booting your laptop into Safe Mode. This will load the operating system with minimal drivers and startup programs, which can help determine if a third-party software or driver is causing the issue.
  • Perform a System Restore: If your laptop was working fine a few days ago, you can try performing a system restore to revert your system back to a previous state when it was functioning properly.
  • Check for Disk Errors: Use the built-in Windows utility called CHKDSK to check for any errors on your hard drive. To do this, open Command Prompt as an administrator and type the command "chkdsk /f /r" (without quotes) and press Enter. Follow any on-screen prompts to schedule the disk check for the next restart.
  • Update Drivers: Ensure that all your device drivers are up-to-date. You can do this through the Device Manager in Windows.
  • Check for Windows Updates: Make sure your operating system is up-to-date by checking for and installing any available Windows updates.
  • Hardware Diagnostics: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, there may be a hardware problem with your laptop. HP provides built-in hardware diagnostics tools that you can access during boot-up. Check your laptop's documentation or the HP website for instructions on how to run these diagnostics.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
