Pavilion dv6
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I've tried Googling this problem and couldn't find anything that described it.

For a long time now, probably over two years, toward the top of my laptop's screen (a Pavilion dv6), the pixels will display as lighter than they are suppost to.

It doesn't seem that they are stuck pixels, as they are not always like this. When I initially turn on my laptop this spot appears normal, but if I leave the window I'm on to something that has a light color (white, yellow, light green, etc.), and then view a different color, these spots then appear as a lighter version of the color I'm currently viewing, with a couple pixels that look like stuck pixels in a few spots. If I then switch to a window/video where the top of the screen displays a dark color, and keep it on that for a while, these spots will display normally yet again.

Because of this I always try to keep my laptop's wallpaper to ones that are darker so I do not have discolored pixels on the top of my screen when I go afk for a longer period of time (like maybe 20+ minutes).

This happens across the entire length of the screen, but appears more prominately in some areas than it does others. These areas are horizontal and are not very tall (maybe 5 or so pixels), and I'd say they occur maybe 15 - 20 pixels down my 1366 x 768 screen. About where the top of favicons for websites appear when I'm on Google Chome. The most affected spot would be where the first tab's favicon appears, in this spot if I leave a light color there too long it looks similar to red stuck pixels.

I'm not really looking for a fix as it's a pretty minor issue I've had for a while and it doesn't seem to be getting worse, I'm just very curious as to what this strange issue is called. I can't find any information on it. If there is a fix outside of getting the screen replaced though, I'd be interested in hearing it!

Hey there! @BeatlesPkmnFan, Thanks for stopping by HP forums!

I understand that Some areas at the top of the screen become lighter after displaying a light color for a while on your laptop.

Have you checked whether the same issue persists in BIOS?

To boot into BIOS turn on your PC keep tapping F10 key. You should be able to boot into BIOS.

Check in BIOS if the same issue occurs in BIOS if not then it is a graphics driver issue.

If the issue persists in BIOS it is a hardware issue, Please contact HP for service options.

Link to contact HP.

I'll watch your reply!

Happy Weekend! 🙂
