HP Spectre x360 Convertible 15-bl0XX
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently purchased a large screen external screen for use with my Spectre laptop.  I connect the display from the HDMI port.  Overall, it works great.

But, I need to close my Spectre lid in order for the external monitor to work at a higher resolution.  When I reopen the lid, the external display gets larger, dropping to a lower resolution.

Is there a setting that can address this weirdness?  I'd like the external display to remain on the higher resolution regardless of if the Spectre lid is open or closed.

Thanks in advance!

@billyjk, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

In Windows, click start and type into the search field, "Change what closing the lid does".

Make changes to the settings as required.

Go to device manager > look for display adapters and update the driver

If driver update is not available, uninstall and restart the PC

Install updates using HP Support Assistant

  1. In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.
  2. Check for updates.
  3. If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Note: If you do not have HP Support Assistant installed, Click here to download the same.

Also, check for any pending windows update. Reboot the computer.

Thanks for getting to this Kumar, but your suggestions didn't work.

If you, or anyone else here has another idea, please let me know.

Thanks!

@billyjk Once the resolution on the external monitor changes, are you able to change the resolution to your preference, save and close settings? If you haven't tried that yet, could you do that and check if that helps? Also, did it works without these issues previously? Do you remember installing any updates before the issue occurred?

Could you try a system restore to an earlier date it had been working (this option does not affect your personal data) : click here for details.

If you wish to thank me for my efforts, you could click on "Accept as solution" on my post as the solution should help others too.
