Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, so essentially my touchpad works fine up until I right click a few times, attempt to click and drag, or sometimes any random gesture. After doing one of these, the touchpad glitches out and randomly does one or more of the following: registers every click as a right click, doesn't register any clicks or movement aside from hard presses in either corner, doesn't register any click at all, registers only light taps on the left side, moves sporadically or not at all, or registers clicks whenever I try to move it. Basically, it just goes crazy. I have tried installing windows precision drivers, uninstalling and reinstalling synaptics, updating synaptics, resetting my computer, and even opening up the laptop and physically removing and reattaching the touchpad. While each of these solutions works for a short time, eventually it goes back to being defective like before. The only workaround I have found is that closing the lid and opening it seems to reset the touchpad and allow me to use it normally for a time until I do an action that triggers it and causes it to stop functioning properly again.

Because everything I've tried only worked for a few days despite no updates occurring each time, I have concluded this must be a hardware problem. I have found the relevant parts on HP's parts store (L02694-001 Touchpad and 942838-001 Touchpad Cable). Considering I do not know exactly which of these parts is having the issues, I was wondering if there was a way to tell whether it was the touchpad itself or the cable. I would prefer not to buy both but if necessary I will. I was thinking if the cable was at fault, the touchpad either wouldn't work at all or wouldn't malfunction so predictably only after right clicking, etc. Does anyone have any advice? Much appreciated.

@luca_luca,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I have seen in my experience that if there is a virus or a malware on your computer and that can cause this type of issues.

I recommend you run a full scan on your computer and make sure there are no virus or malware. For malware, you can also use malware bite and run that on your computer.

I far as the hardware goes, I agree with you and I suggest replacing the touchpad instead of the touchpad cable as it looks logical.

Hope that answers your question and you have a great day!
