Spectre x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Is my Spectre x360 capable of HDR streaming to a 4K TV ?

OS : Windows 10 64bit 17763.1217

CPU : i7-8550U

Intel Graphics 620

Connection :

x360 --> AVR --> TV

After connection, Windows setting shows that the display is NOT capable of HDR (it is) and shows it as 8bit. Also, when using the "advisor" utility from PowerDVD, it shows SGX as "Not Available" even though it is enabled from the BIOS.

I am using a USB Type-C to HDMI cable (4K is working fine, though as of now video playback using Windows Media Player is choppy). Is it a problem of the cable ? If my system itself is not capable, I could just return the cable.

Any suggestions ?

@nubinstanley You are right about the device not supporting HDR, also, the device's display assembly isn't built to support 4K, and so an alternate monitor may get the 4k resolution you seek to output, however, we cannot guarantee it to work, you may want to check with an alternate cable if certain apps work without choppy content while others do not.

A few points : 🙂

1) The laptop does have a 4K model. I assumed that both models had the exact same hardware/capabilities other than the display itself.

2) The laptop does show that the inbuilt display is HDR capable (in Windows settings - the same place that shows that the external TV is not)

3) 4K output seems ro be fine. As in, the laptop does display everything on the TV in 4K. The choppy video was most probably a playback issue.

@nubinstanley Thanks for the points, and when you say the choppy video was due to playback issues, does that mean the issue is resolved? If yes, that's awesome,

If not, please let me know, and we'll help get that sorted with additional research, keep me posted and have a good day.
