Hi @MeowtheMonkey,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand your HP Envy x360 stylus pen only works when plugged in because the internal rechargeable battery is either failing to hold charge or not charging properly.

Please try the following steps:

Fully charge the pen. Connect the pen via USB‑C for at least 30–60 minutes. A white LED should appear when the pen is active.

Check LED indicators

Orange = charging

White = powered on

No light = battery fault or not charging

Test without a charger. After charging, disconnect and try writing in Paint or OneNote. If it only works while plugged in, the battery is defective.

Update drivers in Device Manager; ensure HID‑compliant pen and HID‑compliant touch screen are enabled. Run Windows Update for optional driver updates.

Pair via Bluetooth If your pen has Bluetooth features, hold the top button for 7 seconds until the LED blinks, then pair it in Settings > Bluetooth & devices.

I hope this helps

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀

Best regards,
