I am at a complete loss as to how to get the Synaptics TouchPad settings on my laptop. I am trying to make this touchpad function like the touchpad on my other laptop, specifically one finger edge scrolling.
This touchpad has the settings button in mouse properties:
HP EliteBook 850 G2
Windows 10 Enterprise
Version 1909
Build 18363.1256
“Precision Touchpad”: NO
Synaptics LuxPad V1.7
Driver Version 19.0.19.69
Firmware Version 1.7
Device Management:
- Mice and other pointing devices
- Synaptics SMBus TouchPad, driver version 19.0.19.69
Few options, most options are found in Touchpad Settings under Mouse Properties
Settings option available
Touchpad Settings options
This touchpad is missing the settings button in mouse properties:
HP EliteBook 850 G3
Windows 10 Enterprise
Version 1909
Build 18363.1316
“Precision Touchpad”: YES
Synaptics LuxPad V1.3
Driver Version 19.0.19.69
Firmware Version 1.3
Device Management:
- Human Interface Devices
- HID-compliant touch pad, driver version 10.0.18362.175
- Synaptics HID-Compliant Touch pad Device, driver version 19.0.19.73
- Mice and other pointing devices
- Synaptics SMBus TouchPad 19.0.19.73
Extended Touchpad settings in Windows settings. Considered a precision touchpad.
No touchpad settings button present.
I have tried:
- Restarting: No change.
- Updating the drivers: Already updated.
- Rolling back the Synaptics SMBus TouchPad drivers to oldest available: This brought back the settings options and I changed the touchpad settings to enable one finger scrolling, but the outdated driver made the mouse buttons and cursor malfunction. When updating to the most current drivers, the settings stayed but did not function properly: The touchpad would register both the scrolling and moving the cursor at once.
- Rolling back HID-compliant touch pad and Synaptics SMBus TouchPad drivers to version 19.0.19.69: No change.
- Uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers: No change.
- Uninstalling and installing Lenovo Precision drivers: Limited settings and poor performance.
- Edited Synaptics Registry Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Synaptics\SynTPCpl HideTPSettings from “TRUE” to “FALSE”: This brought back the settings button in Mouse Properties, but I was unable to open the settings. Screen flashed and nothing happened.
- Installing the SynMsiDApp from the Microsoft Store: Encountered errors when attempting to download app.
- Hard reset and loaded BIOS Setup Default: No change.
- Windows Troubleshooter: No results.
- HP PC Hardware Diagnostics: Not helpful
I’m sure there are other things I’ve tried and forgot to list. I have spent hours on this and have lost count at the number of restarts I’ve done. At this point, I am wondering if there is a way to get Windows to return settings management to Synaptics? Or can I make the computer not recognize the touchpad as a precision device? Otherwise, could this be an issue with the touchpad version (LuxPadV1.7, vs LuxPad V1.3)?
I don’t care about 2, 3, and 4 finger gestures. I just want to be able to access the additional settings and enable one-finger scrolling that actually works…
...Is reinstalling Windows really my last option?
