Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Touchpad version Synaptics 19.5.35.42

I have tried configuring my synaptics touchpad. I've turned off two finder tapping, but left two-finger scrolling on.

No mater what I try, I cannot get the context menu to stop popping up when I do two-finger scrolling.

Is there a more capable touchpad driver? I find this driver very flawed.

Thank you!

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

Firstly, run Hard Reset: Follow steps from the link: https://hp.care/2GnkMa8.

Next step BIOS default:

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

Once it's done uninstall Touchpad device from device manager.

  1. Use shortcut keys Win + X on Windows 10.
  2. Select Device Manager.
  3. Expand the entry. Right-click the Mice and other pointing devices and select Uninstall device.
  4. You may need to check the option Delete the driver software for this device, and then click the Uninstall button.
  5. Reboot the computer and check the Touchpad functionality.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

I did what you suggested,  It is still not showing the option to disable the touchpad when a USB mouse is connected.

If it did that, I'd be happy to ignore the rest of its deficiencies.

Is there a different touchpad driver that I can install? This one is really, really awful.

Blessings and thank you for your help!

To get the answer to this question, there is no alternative driver available from HP.
I did research on these Synaptics TouchPad settings on how to disable the Double Tap to Enable or Disable TouchPad feature, open the TouchPad tab in Mouse Properties. Note: Check the box Disable internal pointing device when the external USB pointing device is attached.

  1. Click Start , and then type mouse in the search field.

  2. Click Change your mouse settings.

  3. Click Additional mouse options.

    Clicking on Additional mouse options

  4. In Mouse Properties, click the TouchPad tab.

NOTE: Some HP notebooks have an HP Control Zone tab. If your notebook has this tab, open it and click HP Control Zone Disable. If the properties window does not have a TouchPad option, then the TouchPad functionality is not available.

  5. Click Disable.

    Clicking on Disable

  6. Click Apply, and then click OK.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Thank you for your patience with my problem.

I do not have any of the screens in steps 4 ahd 5. Is there a way to download and install the 19.0.x.x driver shown on those screens? The 19.5.x.x driver I'm using does not let me turn off the touchpad in any way. I tried to uninstall it in Device Manager, but the touchpad still functions!

Is there a service I can disable to turn the touchpad off completely? Maybe Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel Service?

Stray touches from the keyboard when I'm typing move the mouse to a completely different area and causes a lot of frustration.

Any help gratefully appreciated.

Blessings and thanks, again.

Thank you for posting back.

apologize for the inconvenience caused, Just for an example this 19.5.x.x driver" was used.

I would suggest reinstalling the Microsoft windows will reinstall all original software shipped with the computer.

This is really awful.

Is there a TouchPad service I can disable?

I couldn't turn it off in the BIOS.

Here's how I kludged a solution.

I have a previous PC, with a working touchpad.

I used Glary Utilities -- DriverBackup tool to backup the Synaptics TouchPad driver.

I then Restored the driver to my new PC.

It now allows me to turn off the touchpad. It didn't let me toggle it off when the USB mouse is installed, but turning it off gets rid of the incredibly annoying mouse jumping around when I accidentally touch the pad, so I can live with it.

The touchpad is annoying when it is used alone. When I use two fingers to scroll, it also pops us the context menu.

I tried everything to disable the context menu pop-up, but nothing worked. So annoying!

So having it turned OFF is an acceptable solution.

It would be nice if Synaptics (or HP?) developed a more sophisticated driver that could be downloaded and installed. I'm sure I'm not the only one that hates the current driver.

But I LOVE the amazing technical support you provided,  Echo_Lake. Your patience is so appreciated.

Blessings and thanks, again,

John

I took your advice and chatted with HP Support. A Mr. .Iqbal did a superb job of remote controlling my laptop (LogMeIn Rescue) and installed a previous touchpad driver (for win 1809). It now works perfectly.

AND, the two-finger scrolling works without always popping up the context menu.

Thank you, again.
