Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I can no longer disable the Synaptics TouchPad on my HP Laptop. Looking for help to fix this issue.

Prior to the recent Windows updates, I could disable it as I much prefer using a mouse. My Laptop is just over 2 years old and running Windows 10, version 1909. Product # 2UE54UA#ABA. I recently updated the Synaptics TouchPad driver to version 19.5.35.50. The “disable driver” option is still grayed out.

I have not been able to install the synhpconsumerdapp, Synaptics TouchPad Control Panel, from the MS Store even though it shows that I “own this app”. I have tried to install it anyway and I get an error message. In my settings under Update and Security, I have enabled Side Load Apps. I have reported the error to Microsoft numerous times.

This driver/app installation problem needs to be elevated to an HP technical support person who fully understands DCH drivers. If anyone reading this is an HP front line support person, it would be most helpful to forward this to a HP staff familiar with Intel or Nvidia or Realtek "DCH driver/app" installation problems.

Same exact issue. Just updated Microsoft 10 and now cant turn off touchpad. No box to check as all suggestions are referring to.  But on another subject, the touchpad location on laptop is so bad for typing, my hand constantly moves the cursor while typing...so Im surprised more people don't complain.

Totally agree with you. I've spent many hours over the past 3 weeks trying to correct this problem with some good help from the Microsoft Community support site. Nothing worked. I hate the touchpad and it's location is awful.

I just reverted back to previous Windows update. All works again now. Touchpad settings had returned, with a "Disable Touchpad when mouse plugged in".  Will keep this version as long as I can.

Can you show the steps you took to revert to a previous update and which specific update?  What is the synaptics driver version now?

Not 100% positive on how I did revert back, but believe I hit the "windows" start button, bottom left. Then started typing Windows. From there, I saw an update link. I clicked on it, and one of the options was to revert back to previous install. Did that, took maybe 10 minutes.  All my settings were back after that. I didn't even have to go into the "touchpad" settings to turnoff, it was already checked off. But the ability to do it was there again.  Not sure why it isn't on the newest update.

Flimflam1,

I'll give it a try. I'm just wondering what will happen when Microsoft pushes out an update. Will it reverse this "revert back"?

So by reverting back, you experienced no other problems?

Yes, it happened to me JUST NOW!! My Synaptics Touchpad is'nt working anymore, and there is no "revet to" anything. Applause to Windows, once more!

The only solution I can guess is downloading the old driver from a source -not Microsoft-, install it and hope the best.

I'm considering a low tech/cost solution until this gets fixed. Buy a cheap keyboard wrist pad from Amazon or Walmart ($6) and tape it over the touchpad. Tried thinner stuff but touchpad too sensitive and still went ROGUE while typing.
