Troubleshooting black screen issues on HP Notebooks: Click here to view the instructions!

Microsoft Windows 11

I've been troubleshooting a problem with a HP x360, Win11 notebook that was constantly running the fan at higher speeds.  The primary task causing the issue is System Interrupts.

After lots of tinkering, I finally narrowed down the cause to closing the laptop lid, using USB-C to send the video signal to a regular monitor.    I can duplicate the problem, lid open both screens showing data, CPU idles 4-5%.   Close the lid, the CPU usage jumps to 15-20%.   No other activity.

I'm using the latest Intel drivers.

Everything works normally.   it's just I'm tired of listening to the fan.   And of course there is more power usage and the CPU ends up running about 80 degrees, not beyond, but near limits.

Any Suggestions?   Thanks.
