HP Notebook - 15-db1023nq
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi there, i decided to ask this question after i searched all over the web for a solution. My problem is that my system uses too much shared memory for my needs, that being 3045MB alongside of 2048MB of dedicated memory, and i cannot figure a way to decrease that. I have a total of 8GB of memory in my system and with only dropbox in the background and vscode opened it takes around 75% of my memory.

Problem comes with the lack of BIOS features provided by HP. I tried to update the bios to the latest but even that does't add any new features to the BIOS, so i cannot perform any system changes within it. I also tried to modify the registry in Windows10 with no luck, previously i was running Linux, and i could't get a fix for it either, so i decided to try on Windows to see if there is any thing i could do in here, due to having a better software support then linux.

I would be grateful if anyone has a fix for this issue of mine, of decreasing the shared memory without being forced to upgrade the system RAM.

@Kerosz,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I reviewed your post and I understand that the available system memory is lower than the installed memory.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

This is by design. AMD reserves some memory capacity in order to support the Microsoft PlayReady feature.

Hi there Fossette,

Indeed, already knew that there is reserved memory by default, my question was if there is anything software related that can bypass the default values that the hardware comes with. Having set a default value means that somewhere that value is accessible to change. I did search on Microsoft forums and I found out that inside windows there is no way to modify the value, but I found that some companies allow that change through some custom design BIOS, that's why I asked to see if HP has done something like this.

As far as I found out there is no BIOS for this specific laptop that allows you to do that.'

Thank you for the replay and sorry for the late response, there's been a lot of things going on lately. I'll accept your solution as a fix even though it didn't solve what I asked initially. Have a good one.

Regards,

Andrei

@Kerosz,

Thank you for keeping me posted.

Yes, there is no option in the BIOS or in Windows to change the reserved memory. However, if you are using any high memory usage apps or software's Windows will automatically make the required changes.

Cheers!
