Hi @k1kcy,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

Thank you for posting your query on this forum, it's a great place to find answers.

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are having issues connecting your computer to your TV after a recent Windows update.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.

  • Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?
  • Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?

Meanwhile, follow the below steps and check if it helps.

  1. Unplug the TV then plug it into the HDMI port again. Then check to see if the problem is resolved.
  2. Try using a different HDMI cable

If there is no problem with the HDMI port and the cable, please try the below steps.

Check the display output settings

  1. Right-click the desktop and click Personalize.
  2. Click Display.
  3. Check if you’re able to see the TV as a second monitor.

If you are not able to see the TV on the screen, follow steps below:

  • On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key and P at the same time.
  • Click Duplicate.
  • If Duplicate doesn’t work, try switching to Extend.

After that, check to see if Windows can detect your TV.

If the issue persists, I recommend you update the bios and the graphics driver from the below link.

The Fossette,

Thank you for the step by step process on correcting the 'Invalid Format' issue between a HP laptop and LG TV when trying to connect with the HDMI cable.

I followed all the beginning steps, but the one that worked for me was to update the graphics driver. (I had the laptop and TV connected as the driver was being updated). It always used to work, but after last night's software update, it simply stopped today. Glad it's all fixed now. Thank you!

Thanks. However I have solved the problem. I found that by deleting the Display driver  (Intel HD Graphics 620) in Device Manager and allowing it to re-install when re-starting the version from my laptop (by turning off my broadband) this solved the problem. This wasn't a permanent fix as it would later update the driver so that the problem would come back even in the middle of watching my TV. Then I discovered that I coulod roll back in Device Manager and selected the option that I had an app which wouldn't work on the new version and it has not updated since. So it seems I have fixed the problem permanently as I have had no problems since. Thanks, K
