OK.
Install the Intel graphics driver software from the HP Support portal for your notebook and afterwards install the AMD graphics software. see the link below this line.

OK, the link you gave (and the one for my own model, the 850) gives two driver installation files. I downloaded both of them, ran the installer for the Intel driver, and restarted at the end. Then I ran the AMD installer; it continues until it gets to the actual "AMD Software" program, with the dark background, left panel says software not installed, right panel displays progress things. It eventually says "AMD installer cannot continue since AMD graphics hardware is not found" (with a link to click to "learn more").
The TV still does not detect that anything is connected to it when I connect this laptop. I again went to settings and clicked on the button to detect a display, it says it does not detect one. I went to the presentation screen to ensure that "Extend" was selected, it didn't help. The TV still works fine with the same cable and a different laptop.
