HP Envy
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I am wondering if anyone can help with this problem...

I am getting intermittent blacked out areas in various text fields. This seems to happen in many different programs, for example sometimes Windows Excel all the fields are blacked out, other times it happens in Windows pop up information windows, plus other programs too. It seems pretty random and tends to go away after a restart. Sometimes it's the occasional field, other times it's a lot. When it happens some fields are competely black, others it is possible to see some text in.

I am running Windows 10 64-bit on a new HP Envy.

Any help appreciated

Cheers

@Tallisd

Thank you for joining HP Forums.}

I'll be glad to help you 🙂

As I understand Text fields show black blocks/are blacked out

If the issue is intermittent and doesn't depend on any specific program,

I recommend you try an alternate monitor to understand if this is either a hardware or a software failure,
if the issue does not appear on the alternate monitor, you may need to replace the display assembly on your computer,
if the issue appears on the alternate monitor/TV as well, re-install the graphics card drivers & update it from the official HP Website: Click here

If you don’t have an alternate monitor, I recommend checking if the issue appears on the BIOS screen (restart the computer and tap on F10 to access BIOS)

This would confirm if it's either a hardware failure or an issue with the graphics card drivers so we may reinstall and update the drivers to fix the issue as mentioned above.

If the issue persists on BIOS as well, please try with a TV to identify if it's the LCD or the motherboard/video card failure,

Feel free to post your query for any other assistance as well,

It's been a pleasure interacting with you and I hope you have a good day ahead.

Hi and thanks for the reply.

I hooked up to an external monitor and the problem is still visible, I have the latest drivers and there is no change. It seems to go away after a restart then slowly starts happening again after a while, and gets worse and worse. I have a  couple of screenshots, see below.

When it gets really bad text is a mixture of light blue background and black blocks both large and small, and what looks like heavy strike-through lines. Sometimes text is semi visible through all this, other times it is totally blacked out. Sometimes it is dark grey text on black. Weird.

I did a bit of web surfing and it sounds like it could be something to do with the font settings/background colour to the text fields. But couldn't find out how to fix it.

Any other ideas?

Cheers!

I have the same problem it appears since the driver update. Please don't waste our time with the try another monitor fix. It is blatantly obvious that this is not a display problem. I managed to clear it this time with a restart. Please investigate this and provide a solution.
