Hi @Stan_Karam,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If the camera shutter button on your HP Spectre x360 14 is stuck in the active state, you can try the following steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.
- Restart Your Laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can help resolve hardware and software issues. Restart your HP Spectre x360 14 and check if the camera shutter button is still stuck after the reboot.
- Check for Windows Updates: Ensure that your Windows operating system is up to date. Sometimes, updating your system can fix bugs and compatibility issues. To check for updates, go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and click on "Check for updates."
- Update Camera Drivers: Outdated or incompatible camera drivers can cause issues. Go to the Device Manager, locate the camera device, right-click on it, and select "Update driver." Follow the on-screen instructions to update the driver.
- HP Support Assistant: HP laptops often come with the HP Support Assistant software. Run the HP Support Assistant and check for any updates or diagnostics that may help resolve the issue.
- BIOS/UEFI Update: Check if there is a BIOS/UEFI update available for your laptop on the HP support website. Updating the BIOS can sometimes address hardware-related issues.
- Check Privacy Settings: Ensure that your privacy settings are configured correctly. Go to Settings > Privacy > Camera, and make sure that camera access is allowed for the apps you need.
- Use HP Camera Kill Switch: If your laptop has a physical camera kill switch, try using it. This switch physically disconnects power to the camera, and it might help reset the shutter button.
If the problem started after a Windows update, it's also possible that there might be a compatibility issue. In that case, rolling back the update or waiting for a subsequent update that addresses the problem could be a solution. Always back up your important data before performing major updates or changes to your system.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

I had this issue as well that started around the same time. I tried everything including updating windows, running diagnostics on the support app, and doing a full shutdown. I eventually ended up on the HP support site where they allow you to input your serial number and device number to get BIOS and other driver updates. I installed "Intel Human Interface Device (HID) Event Filter Driver" from the list and that seemed to fix the problem. Hopefully works for others as well.
