My touchpad is not working. I've tried double tapping the left corner - no change. I've looked for mouse settings in settings - the touchpad does not show up. Any help will be appreciated. I'm a graduate student with finals coming up in 2 days. I really need my laptop to be fully functional.

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

I see that touchpad is not responding correctly, I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue. Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,

Firstly, please download and run the touchpad drivers if you still haven't. I was able to pull the exact drivers because of the model no. you provided.

Please restart the laptop after installing the drivers. If the touchpad continues to not work then let us run a hardware test on the touchpad by following the below steps:

  • Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

  • Turn on the computer and immediately press the F2 key repeatedly, about once every second.

  • The HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu is displayed.

HP PC Hardware Diagnostic UEFI screen

  • Select Component tests.

List of the Component tests

  • Please initiate a test on Mouse/Touchpad - There are 2 mouse tests to determine if the mouse is functioning correctly - the Pointer Test and the Drag and Drop Test. Click Mouse/Touchpad, then select the test you want to run and follow the instructions.

If the test passes then please initiate a system refresh (repair). Though the steps are for Win8, they will work for Win10 too.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

@jharm55,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I recommend you uninstall the touchpad driver from device manager and then download and install it from the below link.

https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers

Here is how it is done.

  1. Start Control Panel, click Hardware and Sound, and then click Device Manager.
  2. Expand the node that represents the type of device that you want to uninstall, right-click the device entry, and click Uninstall.
  3. On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK to start the uninstall process.
  4. When the uninstall process is complete, remove the device.

NOTE: On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click the Delete the driver software for this device option to delete the driver package that was used for the device.

If you continue facing the issue, I recommend you perform a system restore back to the date when the touchpad was working fine.

Follow the steps in the below article to perform a system restore.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

@Ali02, Welcome to HP Support Community!

Have you tried connecting an external mouse to check if that works fine? If no, please try.

Follow the steps below:

  • Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  • Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
  • On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click Component Tests.
  • Click the Touchpad
  • Click Run once, or Loop until error.
  • While the test is running, the time remaining and test result for each component display on the screen.
  • If a component fails a test, write down the failure ID (24-digit code) for when you respond back to us.

Keep me posted for further assistance.

Which category is the touchpad driver under?

HP Recommended

@AriH, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

You can find the touchpad drivers in Device manager > mice and other pointing devices.

You can also download the touchpad drivers from HP Support site. Click here and type in the model number of your PC.

If you would like to run a test on the Touchpad of your PC, it would be under Component Test

Let me know how this goes.

The synaptics touchpad driver itself is not visible. There is no Mice and Pointing device in the Device Manager, nor is there any enlisted hardware in the Hardware tab of Mouse's settings. I have updated my drivers to the latest version, restarted it numerous times, performed System Diagnostic Tests on startup, but never has the Touchpad worked since the last two months. This is really frustrating that HP cannot solve a simple issue like this. My fellow friend too is facing the same problem with his HP Envy laptop when he tries to return from tablet more. PLEASE provide a solution/BIOS Update or suitable patch for the drivers to cover this problem.

I just started having the same problem on an Envy laptop.
