I have an image of a camera on my screen and can't figure out how to get rid of it. I saw a post about reinstalling the device driver but I couldn't find a device driver for the camera. Nothing happens when I press the camera button. I've applied all updates and restarted.

Hi @JulianC99,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If the camera icon is displayed on the screen of your HP ENVY x360 Laptop and pressing the camera off switch doesn't seem to have any effect, there are a few possible reasons and solutions you can try.
- Check the camera privacy settings: Open the Settings app on your laptop and navigate to the Privacy section. Look for the Camera settings and make sure the camera is allowed to be accessed. If it's disabled, toggle the switch to enable it.
- Update or reinstall the camera driver: Outdated or corrupt camera drivers can cause issues with the camera functionality. Visit the HP Support website or use the HP Support Assistant application to check for driver updates specifically related to the camera. If updates are available, install them. Alternatively, you can try uninstalling the camera driver from the Device Manager and then restarting your laptop. Windows should automatically reinstall the driver upon reboot.
- Perform a power cycle: Shut down your laptop completely, unplug the power adapter, and remove the battery (if possible). Wait for a few minutes, then reinsert the battery (if applicable) and plug in the power adapter. Power on your laptop and check if the camera starts working.
- Reset BIOS settings: Restart your laptop and press the appropriate key (usually displayed on the startup screen) to enter the BIOS or UEFI settings. Look for an option related to the camera or webcam and ensure it's enabled. Save any changes and exit the BIOS/UEFI.
- Check for software conflicts: Sometimes, other applications or software can conflict with the camera's functionality. Try closing any programs that might be using the camera, such as video chat applications, and then test if the camera turns on.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
